Our Road to Rejoicing!

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:3-11 ESV)

Focus of the Month: Jesus Teaches: The Sermon on the Mount/Beatitudes

Time sure flies when you are digging into the Word of God!

Our exploration of the Beatitudes, (the first 12 verses in Matthew 5), is drawing to a close, but our hearts are drawn to continue our adventure through this powerful passage of scripture called the “Sermon on the Mount.”
This teaching that Jesus presented to His disciples is still so important today for those of us who want our lives to resemble Christ’s life. For some of us it won’t be easy to hear; in fact, some might say this sermon should come with a warning label: “Not for the faint of heart” or “It’s About to Get Real”!
The truth is, Jesus loves us so much – He gives us something we could only dream of. He prepares the way for us. He asks us for nothing He hasn’t already lived. He desires us to have a life that reflects His love, His way, His heart and His service.
(If you are just joining us on this journey, please take a few minutes to look back over the past two months messages. You will be encouraged in your personal faith walk and it will be a great foundation for you as we move forward in this beautiful yet challenging message.)

Over these past two months we have had a chance to learn a lot about ourselves. Our past mistakes have led to discovering our desperate need for a Savior; this resulting in mourning the pain and anguish of our past sinful living; learning the importance of becoming humble and gentle. In grasping those things, we begin to hunger and thirst for God more fully and seek His ways wholeheartedly! We will be women who offer mercy and forgiveness with a clean and pure heart as we walk in the peace that only Jesus provides.

Our road won’t be easy; we will be hurt even hated along the way. Some will speak unkindly to us; roll their eyes when we share the name of Jesus, ridicule us. We will hold fast to Him as we rejoice in gladness because our reward is great! This is where we will set our minds. By focusing on the things above, following Jesus, we will receive the promise of The Kingdom of Heaven! Hallelujah and Amen!

Let’s allow God to take us on this once in a lifetime trip. Growing closer to Him, living a life that is centered on Him. As we do this our steps become His steps, our desires are from pure hearts, our hopes begin and end with Him. A mighty and powerful God loves us. We are daughters of the Most High King. I think this is worth rejoicing in!!

“Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:11-12)

Holding Fast to Hope,

Jen
