Celebrate and rejoice in the mighty works the Lord has done;
Lord, I sing your praise and I am filled with Joy!
Scripture for today: Psalm 92:4 (NIV)
“For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done.”
The “Mona Lisa” painted by Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo’s sculpture of “David” and “The Starry Night” painted by Vincent Van Gogh are all considered great works of art. Each was made with human hands. By using a blank canvas or a beautiful piece of marble something incredible came to life. We stand in admiration of these masterpieces and in awe of the giftedness of the men who created them. Breathtaking–one of kind workmanship!
I wonder how many have walked the halls of museums and gasped an overwhelming “wow”? And how many of us gaze upon these things that in reality, cannot compare to the mighty works, which God has done? Do we delight at the landscapes on this Earth, the uniqueness of every individual, the talents that God bestows upon us? Do we revel in the beauty of a sunset or the perfect rhythm of a rippling stream? Nature alone is one of God’s most beautiful creations.
Yet, even nature cannot hold a candle to the wonder of a man whose life is changed by the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Only man can experience this great work. Only man can sing praise to God, our creator! “Blessed be the name of the Lord, Blessed be His name…every blessing you pour out, I will turn back to praise.” This song fills my soul with gladness every time I sing it.
The joy of knowing that God has done for me what no man can do is what is breathtaking! I rejoice because my name is written in heaven. I rejoice because I am no longer a slave to fear. I rejoice because my God sees me and hears me when I cry out to him. I am joyful in hope, patient when I am in distress and I will remain faithful in prayer because of Jesus. He says WE are the masterpiece. As he takes his time, chiseling away the damage of this world he leaves behind a great work of art. We are that work. His purpose was to save us. Our purpose is to sing of His glory! His wonderful and beautiful glory!
You will not see us in a museum but when we welcome the chisel, when we welcome the brush-stroke of God upon our hearts…we become His great work. He never stops transforming us. Forever we sing for JOY!
Holding Fast to Hope,
Jen
