Crystal Clear

The unfolding of Your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.
Psalm 119:130 (ESV)

Series Focus: “Let There Be Light”

We purchased a “new to us” camera recently. Unfortunately, no instructions accompanied the device. We fumbled through attaching the lenses, attempting to bring blurry images to focus before snapping our first pictures. YouTube has proved to be an excellent resource in finding directions in the event none are accessible. Suddenly, what seemed so confusing became crystal clear.

When instructions are provided, understanding is realized and, ideally, the cooperating actions ensue. Whether completing an assignment, learning a new skill, or putting a camera together, clear directions provide the avenue for success. Upon fulfillment, wisdom and revelation are obtained.

The Bible is full of instruction for our lives. The truth in the Word of God supplies direction, guidance, and training. In Psalm 43:3-4 (ESV), David cries out to God, seeking His counsel:

Send out Your light and Your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to Your holy hill and to Your dwelling! Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy, and I will praise You with the lyre, O God, my God.

As we approach the Bible with the intent of learning, we grow in understanding, knowledge, and wisdom.  The words of God bring light to our journey and truth to lead us in each moment. What may have been confusing becomes clear. The unknown becomes known. Our thoughts and actions, then, align with our newfound knowledge.

Jesus, as recorded in John 8:31-32 (ESV), encouraged those whom He taught to dwell in, continue in, remain in His word. In doing so, they would grow in wisdom and experience freedom.

“If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Gaining wisdom from God’s truth is a process. The totality of revelation from the Bible is not going to occur instantly from one study session, a year of Sundays in church, or even a degree in divinity. Day by day, precept upon precept, line upon line, as we yield ourselves to the instruction in the Bible, greater understanding will come.

May we incorporate a teachable spirit as we approach the instruction in the Bible. Let’s dig deep into the Word of God, seek His truth, and ask Him for wisdom. The studying of His word gives light and provides understanding.  As the mysteries unfold before us, becoming crystal clear, may our actions align with each truth we learn.

Holding Fast to Hope,
Maryann
