Hello, My Name is…Jesus

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things were made through Him,
and without Him nothing was made that was made.
John 1:1-3 (NKJV)

Series: His Name is Jesus

Hello. My name is Jen. So often, all we learn about someone is their name. But knowing my name doesn’t really give you a full picture of “who I am,” does it? It is simply a word if you have no other context. It’s no wonder an obituary is so treasured at the time of a loss. This type of tribute does so much more than just announce our loved one’s name and passing; it serves as a lasting keepsake describing a person’s roots, their deepest relationships, and their unique characteristics and gifts. Through these written words, even people who never knew the person by name come to know the deeper qualities and passions of the person of whom it was written.

As we read and study the written Word of God, we are introduced to the person of  Jesus. By connecting scriptures from the Old and New Testaments to Him, we begin to recognize and understand in a deeper way why His name is so important. Not merely to know His name, but to more fully comprehend what His name means. God’s Word is an invitation for us to come to Him and behold His character, His promises, and His power.

Only knowing my name doesn’t reveal much. It doesn’t disclose that I am a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a friend, and above all, a child of God. Because I walk with Jesus and place my hope in Him, every role in my life is more precious. As I learn more about Him, I want my life to reflect who He is. More of Him, less of me. Look at Psalm 63:3-4 (NKJV) with me:

Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.

Jesus, the Word made flesh, is better than anything else. Through the sacrifice of His life, He poured love, mercy, and grace out as an offering for you. His is the only name that deserves such devotion, commands complete authority, and covers every flaw within us. He is worthy of praise, and He bids you come. We pray you find a sincere passion for Him as we explore more about His name and who He is over the next several months.

Have you ever reflected on the faithfulness of God’s Word, the strength of His promises, or the depth of His character? If so, you’re in the right place. We are taking this journey together, believing God will provide a fresh revelation of our Savior. He has many names in scripture, and all are significant. Some point to His almighty power, while others describe aspects of His nature. As we encounter the fullness of Jesus, our lives will transform, our relationships will deepen, and our faith will strengthen.

In John 17:1-3 (NKJV, Jesus said:

Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

May the powerful name of Jesus ever be on our lips as we lift His Name high, seek His presence, and grow closer to Him.

Holding Fast to Hope,
Jen
