For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace
Isaiah 9:6 (NASB)
Series: Our Savior, Our Hope
What if I told you I had a cure? A remedy to save you from running in circles, striving to be more, and even chasing what you think is missing from your life? Would you be interested? If you would’ve asked me that question ten years ago, I would have said, “Bring it on!”
In my search for answers, I often focus on my “missing pieces.” Nothing seems to satisfy me. So I remain in a place of chaos, running on empty, until I have no more to give. Then I wonder, what else could I have done? Oh, if I had a dollar for every time I asked myself this question! So yes, I want the cure. I want it now. Don’t you?
Living in a state of rest, calmness, or whatever terminology you might use isn’t far from your fingertips. Yet, we reach for the temporary solution or the “quick fix,” thus complicating our lives even more. Setting goals to relieve our stressed-out bodies is not a bad thing or a waste of time, but the peace we feel lasts only until the next problem creeps in and rears its ugly head.
We need more than a better habit, an attitude change, or a fresh perspective. We need real, lasting, genuine Peace. And here’s the plot twist: Peace is not a thing you find—He is a person you cling to. Isaiah calls Jesus “The Prince of Peace.” Many scriptures speak about peace, and Jesus even tells us He gives us peace.
Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor fearful. (John 14:27 NASB)
These things I have spoken to you so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NASB)
Jesus is our help in times of trouble. He is our rescuer from fear. So why do we keep searching the world for peace? In my study and prayer time over this scripture, I had a moment in which I realized Jesus isn’t offering to make us feel better. He is offering us Himself. He is the cure! When we choose Him, we choose Peace. Oh, how I love Isaiah prophesied this before Jesus came to us as a newborn babe—fully God, fully man.
Some of us are going to miss this. We are going to keep fighting the good fight until we drop from exhaustion. We will convince ourselves we hold the power to fix whatever is messy about our lives. And while we keep spinning in all directions, fearing failure, pursuing perfection, chasing the wind, hoping for answers, Jesus calls out to us from His place beside the Father. Will you behold your King?
Will you hear Him as He offers wisdom through His wonderful counsel? Stand in awe of Him as your all-powerful Mighty God? Trade your yearning for the things of this world that are giving temporary answers, and receive the gift of salvation your Eternal Father extends? Finally, will you call out to The Prince of Peace, your loving Savior, because He is your Hope?
Friends, we don’t want you to miss Him. Nothing in this world is better than Jesus. Cling to your Peace and behold your King!
Holding Fast to Hope,
Jen
