No Escape

For the Lord is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations.
Psalm 100:5 (ESV)

Series Focus: “Let There Be Light”

When I was a child, my parents took our family on a vacation to Maine. Along the way, we stopped to tour Niagara Falls. The majesty of the massive falls and the roar of the rushing water completely left us awestruck. Dawning raincoats to shield us from the drenching overspray, we followed the tour-guide to witness the power of the thunderous falls. Regardless of the protective measures, the uncontainable mist still saturated us.

In the presence of such majesty, it’s impossible to not be impacted in every way: body, mind, spirit, soul. The deluge of the falls permeated the inner chambers of our chests. The magnificence of the view overwhelmed even our most vivid imaginations. The power of the crashing water revealed just how small and powerless we were. The overflowing mist immersed everything within its reach.

Such is the presence of God: His majestic glory, His victorious power, His unfailing light, His steadfast love. They are uncontainable and overflow to us as we rest in His presence. David, in Psalm 36:7-9, wrote:

How precious is Your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. They feast on the abundance of Your house, and You give them drink from the river of Your delights. For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light do we see light.

God’s steadfast love provides refuge, abundance, satisfaction, life, and light. Just as the mist at Niagara Falls washes over everything within its reach, so God’s love permeates the lives of those who wait upon Him. There is no escape. The overflow of His power, His mercy, and His goodness penetrate our lives in every way.

In His light, we see light. In His love, we see love. His light infuses our spirits and spills over to lead us in truth. We become immersed in His love, awed by His grace, and astounded by His power. John wrote about the permeating light of Jesus in John 1:4:

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Jesus is the light of life. God, through His great love for us, has provided protection, provision, fulfillment, life, and light. Wait upon the Lord in the majesty of His presence and the beauty of His holiness. Allow His glorious light to lead you; His magnificent power to invigorate you; and His overflowing love to saturate every part you.

May you experience God’s uncontainable steadfast love, just as David professed: feast on the abundance of God’s house; drink from the river of His delights; experience the fountain of life; and see light in His light.

Holding Fast to Hope,
Maryann
