You Are Unique

“For you formed my inward parts; You knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Psalm 139:13-14 (ESV)

Series Focus: “Through His Eyes”

Before you were even born, you were set apart from everyone else. Made uniquely, wonderfully and most importantly—created in the image of Almighty God. You are undeniably special, there is no one like you, and your life has beautiful purpose. Is this too much to believe? Am I pouring it on too thick? It may seem that way, but I hope by the time you finish reading this message you will receive this truth: you are a unique masterpiece through God’s eyes! In Ephesians 2:10, Paul gives us an image of how God sees us. Let’s look at two different translations:

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” (NASB)

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (NLT)

A masterpiece stands out in the crowd. She can be bold, or subdued. She can speak loudly or softly. She can have brown hair, blonde hair, red hair, or any color hair in between. But make no mistake, she is created in Christ for good things. She is you. God calls you into being with unmistakable purpose. He fashioned you in your mother’s womb and knew you before you were ever born. How incredible is that? You have been given good gifts to bless others and to glorify God. Is this difficult for you to fathom? Maybe it feels like too much responsibility? Unattainable? Impossible? But not to the Lord!

We see our flaws; God sees our abilities. We focus on our mistakes; He focuses on our transformation. We hide in the shadows, but He pulls us into the light. God bestows each one of us with good and unique gifts to be used in the body of Christ and for the good of this world. If only we joyfully receive these gifts—set apart for us—that the body of Christ be complete. Do you know you have special gifts? It is written in scripture:

“God has given each of you a gift from His great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” 1 Peter 4:10 (NLT)

Marinate in the truth that you are a masterpiece. Made differently from all others—the divine design of God. You matter to God, and you matter to His people. Allow His workmanship to flourish! Pour out your gifts to others, and know you are His one-of-a-kind creation!

Holding Fast to Hope,
Jen
